What is Corydoras?

Corydoras are a genus of freshwater catfish native to South America. Often called “cory catfish” or simply “cories”, they are bottom-dwelling scavengers that thrive in groups and prefer soft substrates such as sand.

Typical habitat and water envelope

Corydoras originate from slow-moving streams, tributaries and floodplains across South America, particularly in the Amazon basin. They inhabit soft, sandy bottoms with leaf litter and gentle flow.
